About the Summer Spiti Valley Trip
Spiti opens for about four months a year, and this is the short way in — up from Manali over Kunzum Pass, straight into Kaza, with no long Kinnaur approach. Two nights in Kaza gets you the villages that make the valley worth the altitude: Langza with its Buddha looking out over the fossil fields, Komic at 4,587 m, Hikkim and the world’s highest post office, and Key Monastery stacked up its hill.
Coming back you drop down the valley through Dhankar, a monastery built on a spur of crumbling rock above the Spiti and Pin confluence, and stay the night at Tabo — a mud-walled complex founded in 996 CE and still in use. This is a cold desert at 4,000 m: bright, dry, and completely unlike anywhere else in Himachal.

01Delhi to Manali | Overnight Journey
- Assemble at the boarding point in Delhi in the evening and meet your trip captain and the group.
- Depart by tempo traveller, Volvo or private cab, whichever you have selected.
- Scenic overnight journey towards Manali.
02Manali Arrival | Local Sightseeing | Manali Stay
- Morning arrival in Manali. Check in at the hotel and freshen up.
- Head out for local sightseeing: the Hadimba Devi temple in its deodar grove, the Vashisht temple and its natural hot springs, Van Vihar on the bank of the Beas, then Old Manali and Mall Road.
- Evening at leisure.
- Overnight stay in Manali.
03Manali to Kaza via Kunzum Pass | Kaza Stay
- Early morning departure towards Kaza — a long day on the road, and the best one.
- Drive through the Atal Tunnel to Sissu, then on via Gramphoo and over Kunzum Pass at 4,590 m, subject to road conditions.
- The landscape changes completely past the pass: green gives way to the bare ochre and grey of the cold desert.
- Continue through Spiti valley, reaching Kaza by evening. Check in at the hotel.
- Overnight stay in Kaza.
04Kaza Sightseeing | Key, Kibber, Chicham, Hikkim, Komic & Langza
- After breakfast, a full day out around Kaza.
- Key Monastery, stacked in tiers up its hill and the largest in Spiti, then Kibber village just above it.
- Chicham Bridge, the highest suspension bridge in Asia, spanning a gorge nearly 150 m deep.
- Hikkim, home to the world’s highest post office — you can send a postcard from 4,400 m.
- Komic at 4,587 m and Langza, where a Buddha statue looks out over fields full of marine fossils.
- Return to Kaza. Overnight stay in Kaza.
05Kaza to Tabo via Dhankar | Tabo Stay
- Breakfast and check out from Kaza.
- Drive to Dhankar Monastery, built onto a spur of crumbling rock about 300 m above the confluence of the Spiti and Pin rivers. Time to explore the old village around it.
- Continue down the valley to Tabo.
- Visit Tabo Monastery, founded in 996 CE and one of the oldest continuously functioning Buddhist establishments anywhere — mud walls outside, some of the finest surviving murals in the Himalaya inside.
- Overnight stay in Tabo.
06Tabo to Manali | Manali Stay
- Early morning departure from Tabo towards Manali.
- Scenic return through the Spiti and Lahaul valleys, back over Kunzum and through the Atal Tunnel.
- Reach Manali by evening or night, subject to road conditions. Check in at the hotel.
- Overnight stay in Manali.
07Manali to Delhi | Trip Ends
- Breakfast at the hotel and check out.
- Depart for Delhi by tempo traveller, Volvo or private cab.
- The tour concludes on arrival in Delhi.
