Bali costings online range from ₹60,000 to ₹2.5 lakh, which is not much help. The spread is almost entirely flights and hotel tier. Here is the breakdown, in the order the money actually leaves your account.

The visa, precisely
- Indian passport holders get visa on arrival, currently IDR 500,000.
- It is valid 30 days and can be extended once, in person at an immigration office.
- You can do it as an e-VOA before you fly, which saves queueing at Ngurah Rai.
- Passport validity of at least six months beyond arrival, and a return ticket.
Fees and rules change. Check the current requirement close to your departure rather than trusting any article, including this one.
When to go
The dry season runs roughly April to October, and that is when Bali is at its best — and busiest in July and August. November to March is the wet season: rain in bursts rather than all day, greener, cheaper, and the Nusa Penida crossing is more likely to be cancelled on the sea state.
Where the money is wasted
- Booking Nusa Penida as a separate day trip after you arrive. It costs more and the good slots go early.
- Staying in one place and driving everywhere. Ubud to Uluwatu is two hours in traffic. Splitting the nights costs nothing and saves four hours of your holiday.
- Paying for a private car per day, alone. This is the single biggest difference between a group departure and a self-planned trip.
